A Treasure- Antique 800 Silver Filigree Rosary and Silver Filigree Box ROMA
This is absolutely an antique treasure. Both piece, the tiny box and the rosary are marked 800, which is typical European silver at 800/1000 parts silver, the other is usually copper in most pieces of sterling or 800 silver jewelry. Both the box and the rosary were gilt, only the rosary retains the gold. There are traces on the inside of the box, which measures just shy of 1 1/2" in diameter. I imagine this was carried in a tiny evening purse to have a rosary close. Although the gilt is worn on the box, it shows no other signs of wear. Probably from the early part of the 1900s, this precious rosary was a treasured souvenir of a trip to Rome. The tiny rosary fits perfectly in the box, just gently shake the box as you put the rosary in and it will be a perfect fit!
Antique Rare Saphiret Rosary, Exceptional
This is a rare Victorian Saphiret rosary with fancy spacers and exceptional saphiret beads. Saphiret beads and jewelry were popular during Victorian times, the beads are precious Czech art glass made with actual gold in the glass. Very difficult to photograph their subtle beauty- the beads appear a kind of mauve or brick pink color until light hits them. Then beautiful flashes of aqua can be seen deep within the beads. There is no surface treatment, it is within the glass itself. Note the beautiful fancy spaces on either side of the Pater beads. Metal is gilt brass which is a bit worn on the crucifix. There is a slight bit of tarnish on the crucifix which can be cleaned if desired. Detailed center with Mary on one side, Jesus on the other. See all the photos for details of the beads and rosary. Length when laid flat is a generous 22". The final picture shows the rosary in the deep shade with no sunlight reaching it. In a private collection.
