Antique Five Wounds Rosary

This is a very early (1800's) Five Wounds rosary that needs some restoration. These are extremely rare and hard to find. There are new versions with colorful medals but this is obviously an antique with beautiful brass medals. There are medals representing the Five Wounds (hands, feet, heart) with 5 sets of 5 beads between. There are 3 beads on the lead portion of the rosary after the main medal which shows all Five Wounds and Mater Dolorosa on the reverse. This rosary was collected in Belgium and is rusty and the wood beads have lost their finish and need to be oiled. Note the design of the chain which was used frequently during the 1800's. It is extremely strong, but unfortunately, it is prone to some rather nasty tangling. This type of chain work pretty much went out of style by the early 1900's, although there were some attempts at using it again over the years.

Magnificent Antique Spanish Colonial Silver Filigree Rosary with MoonGlow Beads

Rosaries 865.jpg

One of the most magnificent rosaries I have ever had, this is a spectacular Spanish Colonial style silver filigree rosary, done in the way these rosaries were made for over a century. Look at the huge detailed crucifix with gold plated corpus and center of hand made silver filigree , the fancy spacer beads on either side of the Pater beads, and the detailed bead caps, simply a work of art! The thing that it a bit odd about this rosary is it hails from the WWII period when moonglow lucite was the height of fashion. Most of the rosaries that are similar to this one are dated earlier, but the existence of this one makes me wonder how accurate the dating of them really is. The crucifix is a huge 3" and the three dimensional crown shaped center which is just spectacular is 1 3/4". The rosary is over 23" in length when laid flat. This would be the most fabulous gift imaginable! A very high end collector's rosary. See all pictures for details. Metal is unmarked but is probably 800 silver.
