Antique Rosaries 1a

SOLD! Thank You. Victorian Era Sapphire Blue 4 Decade Rosary $175

A stunning 4 decade rosary featuring sapphire blue pressed glass ave beads and clear crystal pater beads. With the sapphire blue ave beads measuring 8-8 1/2mm and the crystal pater beads measuring 10-11mm, this rosary weighs in at 45g. Wonderful weight and feel in the hand. The 4 decade rosary is traditionally the rosary for the dead. The rosary for the dead dates back to the mid 1800's. The rosary is 18" in length and the cross is 1 3/4" long. I do not see any hallmarks on the cross, but I do believe it is silver. The center medal and the links appear to be a silver plated brass or copper and have some wear to the lower metal.

Note the wonderful detail to the crucifix.

SOLD! Thank You! Stunning Pale Saphiret Sterling Rosary $475

The wonderful hues of the saphiret beads are truly a treasure. Some of the most rare and expensive late 1800's and early 1900's rosaries are those made with saphiret beads. There is a mystic to saphiret, no longer made, the exact process has been lost or may just be too expensive to produce. Actual gold was used in the making of these subtle beads. Produced in Gablonz, a famous glass bead making city in Bohemia (Czechoslovakia), gold was added to a sapphire blue glass which produced the mysterious effect of the beads changing color in different lighting. The rosary is 20" in length when laid flat and the cross is 1 3/4" long. Both the crucifix and the center medal are stamped sterling and I do believe that all the connecting links are silver as well.
