Rare Vintage Civelli Rosary from 1950

ABOUT THE FAMOUS CIVELLI ROSARY

Here is a little history on the Civelli Rosary, there are several versions and different colorations but all were produced in the 1950's and designed by the Italian sculptor Civelli. They were made of "Ivorine" which is a resin material. One type is the 1950's Civelli Rosary with Regina Pacis center with relic soil from the Catacombs of Rome embedded in the center. The beads portray the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. Latin inscriptions are on the reverse of each bead. Original tag "Made in Italy" and "Marque Depose" (Trade Marked) may be present on some that were not used. Originally designed by the famous Italian sculptor, Civelli in the late 1940's for the 1950 Holy Year, this is a later issue with a different center. The Civelli rosaries are some of the few that are actually patented. The first Civelli rosary is the famous Jubilee Year MCML (1950) Civelli Rosary. The center has the Holy Spirit and on the reverse Ano Sancto MCML. Designed by the famous Italian sculptor Civelli, it is made of "Ivorine". The beads portray the Litany of the Blessed Virgin and the Mysteries of the Holy Rosary. Latin inscriptions are on the reverse of each bead.

SOLD! Thank You. Anno Santo MCML Civelli Rosary, Shows Some Wear $135

tsb131.1.gif

This Civelli has been used for prayer over the decades and is a little worn from use so it is priced less than one in pristine condition. It has a lovely dove center with Anno Santo MCML (Holy Year 1950 on the reverse side. There were quite a few variations of the Civelli rosary with different centers and coloring. This one does show wear- some of the script on the back of the beads is quite worn and the first 5 beads are worn. This rosary is just warm and gorgeous and looks like worn ivory. My personal collection contains several extremely worn Civellis which are my favorites- there is such a feeling of sacred prayer emanating from them! Measures 25" in length.

Note that some of the inking has been worn from the beads.

rosaries3b 003.jpg

A famous 1950 Civelli Holy Sprit rosary in pristine condition with the original tag still on! What a fabulous find this is. The front of the center pictures The Holy Spirit. Mary is on the back with Regina Pacis, Queen of Peace. The back of the crucifix has "Pat. C. Civelli" and Roma imprinted. There were different versions of this rosary- the centers were different and the reverse of the crucifixes were slightly different. All though had the same highly detailed beads with images and Latin inscriptions. See the introductory paragraph on this page for more details about the Civelli rosaries.
